The <strong>sector most directly affected by drought is agriculture<\/strong>, since the entire production chain is affected, but the <strong>hydro-electric power <\/strong>sector is also affected, both in terms of production and planning.<\/p>\n\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Snow Water Equivalent<\/strong>\u00a0(SWE), i.e., the amount of water available as the snowpack melts, is a <strong>key variable in assessing the available water supply in mountain basins<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/radarmeteo.us4.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=d072561c908e27f037163deb3&amp;id=5d640892cc&amp;e=5137ad4c65\"><strong>Radarmeteo <\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/radarmeteo.us4.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=d072561c908e27f037163deb3&amp;id=c0629a8c4a&amp;e=5137ad4c65\"><strong>Hypermeteo<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<strong> have developed a new system to provide high resolution and accurate SWE data.<\/strong>\u00a0They are obtained through algorithms fed from all available observational sources (on-site measurements from snow gauges, satellite measurements and those from meteorological reanalysis datasets), spatialised using different statistical procedures and integrated into a cryohydrological model.<\/p>\n\n<p>This makes it possible to provide a <strong>constantly updated dataset<\/strong> relating to this variable, in order to <strong>monitor and improve basin management<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>CASE STUDY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>The Alpine regions of <strong>Veneto<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Piedmont<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Lombardy<\/strong>\u00a0were selected by the <strong>SNOWtoWATER<\/strong>\u00a0project \u2013 funded by the European Space Agency &#8211; for the evaluation of the proposed method.
