Starting in 2025, the Italian power system manages energy trading and imbalances on a quarter-hourly basis, in line with European regulations.<\/em><\/strong>
In this new scenario, Hypermeteo has upgraded its technologies to support the entire energy sector, further increasing the accuracy of its weather and climate datasets.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

By implementing EU Regulation 2017\/2195<\/a> (Electricity Balancing Guideline) and the new Integrated Text on Electricity Dispatching<\/a> (TIDE) issued by ARERA<\/a> (the Italian Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment), Italy aligned with European electricity market standards as of January 1, 2025. These standards require the management of energy trading and imbalances\u2014deviations from the balance between energy injected into and withdrawn from the grid, which involve costs and risks for operators\u2014on a quarter-hourly basis (every 15 minutes).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quarter-hourly granularity represents a true paradigm shift for the Italian power system, enabling more accurate forecasts and more effective risk management for producers, traders, aggregators, and consumers, who can now access more detailed information on consumption and generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

High-resolution weather forecasts are a cornerstone in the management of dispatching and balancing processes, especially given the growing share of renewable energy from non-dispatchable sources such as solar and wind.\n\nHypermeteo, aiming to consolidate its role as a strategic partner for the entire energy sector by providing technologies that support an increasingly renewable, dynamic, and complex power system, has enhanced the accuracy of its forecast, historical, and near real-time datasets. This improvement is achieved through the use of more advanced technologies, broader datasets, and the integration of physical and statistical models along with real observations from stations, radar, and satellites. Among the key innovations is HFSENS \u2013 Hypermeteo Forecast System Ensemble<\/strong>, a multi-model system with quarter-hourly resolution that extends medium-term forecasts and ensures greater accuracy and timeliness of information. The nowcasting system (very short-term forecasting) has also been further developed, particularly for solar radiation and wind speed\u2014key variables for optimizing renewable energy production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hypermeteo\u2019s solutions are widely used by the energy sector as they deliver concrete and immediate benefits, including: more accurate estimates of renewable generation and consumption, more efficient management of imbalances, improved support for operational and strategic decision-making to reduce the impact of severe weather events, and better forecasts for energy trading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
