AGROCAST®: THE APPLICATION DEDICATED TO SMART AGRICULTURE

In agriculture, the already substantial use of meteorological information has evolved towards a more structured, more professional demand determined by the smart approach and the application of digital technology in management and operational processes; this, in turn, requires discretisation and advanced details, even in representation of meteorological phenomena. This degree of precision is achieved both through new generation sensors, such as weather radars, and through applied scientific methodologies, such as retrospective analysis (reanalysis). When it comes to smart agriculture or agriculture 4.0 — i.e. the digital world — meteorology has acquired a leading role.

CLIMATE SMART AGRICULTURE

In agronomic activities, and in particular in precision agriculture, the availability of reliable and consistent meteorological data makes it possible to optimise choices, actions, and results, applying modular and proportionate responses to specific situations, with benefits in terms of effectiveness, resource savings, and environmental impact.

In most cases, the data provided by meteorological services is adequate; however, often (due to irrigation, treatments), more detailed information may be required, information which is obtained by refining the representativeness of existing weather data or by using dedicated sensors (e.g. to measure solar radiation, ground or soil temperature).

Often, the meteorological data thus acquired contribute to the operation of other systems, for example:
